Responsibilities
Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories & performing physical examinations; ordering &/or performing diagnostic & therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing & implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling & education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals.
- Physician Assistants in an emergency shall be authorized to treat any medical disease &/or perform & medical & surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates.
- An emergency for these purposes is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient & the patient’s private physician is not immediately available.
- In addition, Senior PA responsibilities include general supervision of the PA team & job duties listed below as assigned by PA Director or Chief PA.
- Assist with administrative aspects of the PA service. Perform role of Admitting/Charge PA as assigned.
- Assist in the interview process for new PA’s. Assist with training & general mentoring of PA’s & PA students.
- Participate with the Medical Director, PA Director & Chief PA’s in developing an educational curriculum for PA’s. Keep current with respect to new technologies, techniques or patient management strategies. Participate in the formal didactics for PA education.
- Participate in development & implementation of policies & procedures & quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills to problem solve & initiate clinical decision making. Provide supervision & assistance to PA staff during clinical urgencies & emergencies.
- Participate in a team approach to health care by acting as a liaison between members of the primary care team, nursing staff, interdisciplinary team & consulting services.
- Must participate in preparedness for all regulations & standards as required by bodies such as JCAHO & NYS DOH.
- Further responsibilities may include overseeing completion & submission of routine & special reports; oversee various research protocols; data preparation for departmental studies &/or projects.
- The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes & other institution settings.
*This position has a rotating schedule, this may include days, nights, weekends & holidays
Day shift- 7am – 7:30pm.
Night shift- 7pm – 7:30am.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Five years of Inpatient experience required.
- Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant Program.
- New York State License.
- NCCPA Certified.
- ACLS Certified.
- BLS Certified.
